Rabbits

Rabbits is one of the four Primary classes and is part of Pathway 2 within the Academy. At present there are eight students within the class; three boys and five girls within Key Stage 1-2.

The ‘Rabbits’ are a vibrant group of students, who are playful and inquisitive. They enjoy learning through hands on experiences and play. All learners within the class have a range of complex learning needs related to communication, interpersonal and self-help skills; most of the class have a diagnosis of ASC or ADHD.

The teacher, Isabella King, is supported by Donna Lack, Anji Bonser and Katie Taylor-Keightley.

The children access most of the curriculum in their own classroom space which is a calming and stimulating environment that celebrates their achievements. Full advantage is also taken of the Academy facilities including the kitchen, hall, soft play, outside area and sensory room. The students study English and Maths four times a week with daily reading and phonics sessions too.

Opportunities are also taken to explore the wider community and local area, thorough weekly community visits in the minibus, Throughout the year children also have opportunities to regularly engage in PE, horse riding and swimming. The students explore their creative sides through art, cooking, music and drama. Our students also engage in our Preparing for Adulthood curriculum which develops the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to access/promote future employment, community skills, independence and health.

We communicate with home daily using planners, email and telephone calls. We love to share the great work our students complete and celebrate their success and use Class DoJo to share photos and updates throughout the year.
