Outspoken is the voted title given to our school council. The group was formed to enable students and staff to discuss important issues affecting the Academy. The group meet each Tuesday lunchtime for 30 minutes. Every alternate Tuesday, the group do the recycling for each classroom, including the office and staff room.

The group is made up of representatives from all 14-19 classes, and some pupils from KS3. At the start of each year, each class votes for their representative and members can change termly or stay the full year.

We are involved in fundraising, special interest days, and help out in assemblies. We sometimes work with charities from outside school. Members provide a voice for their classes

Staff members are Janet Smith and Karen Hicklin.

Student members:

Emily, Joseph, Liam, Elliot, Tyler, Chloe, Nathan, Jasmin

Around the World Day

Handprint based on the day next week, representatives from each group to inform students of their country and what they are doing. Val to let students know of Declan’s role – taking photographs of the day.

Information given out to staff, put in staff room and posters around school advertising the day.

No meeting next Thursday as it is Round the World day.

Martine would like to come to our meeting on 28th January to discuss Shakespeare week.

Jenny Lee would like to come on February 4th to discuss Sports Relief run.

Andy has sent us an email asking if we can gather thoughts and views from the school about ‘What it means to be at Foxwood?’

We had lots of ideas –

Advertise in Handprint and Primary assembly.

Have a Talking Wall with descriptive words, statements and pictures – maybe film each student putting their contribution on the wall and then make a short film of it.

Use words and write a poem or story. Draw/paint a picture, write it, sketch it, work on the computer.

Give examples of what our school is e.g. fun fair, hospital, holiday etc and have pictures to show this.

Need to decide on a time scale for this to happen.

Next meeting – Thursday 28th January
