Foxwood Academy

Learning for Life

How we organise our curriculum

Foxwood Academy is organised into three curriculum phases (Primary, Key Stage 3 and 14-19). Within each phase there are three pathways (Pre-Formal, Semi-Formal and Formal). This provides three clearly determined progression routes for individual children through the Academy.

There are currently three Primary classes, four Key Stage 3 classes and six 14-19 classes (One is based off-site at the City Hospital for their week). Each class has a range of ages within the phase where students are placed according to ability and support requirements. We are currently going through a full review of our curriculum and with it has come a period of curriculum change.

Primary – Key Stage 1 and 2

Students in the Primary phase of the Academy are aged between four and eleven years old.

Classes in all three pathways follow a Mainstream Primary School model where the class tutor delivers the majority of the curriculum at the appropriate level. There is one class following each pathway. Their curriculum consists of core timetabled lessons in Numeracy, Literacy and Science along with a range of other subject based learning. In September 2015 we introduced a Preparing for Adulthood curriculum into the Primary phase which develops skills, knowledge and understanding within Employment, Community, Independence and Health.

The Key Stage 3 curriculum consists of core timetabled lessons in Mathematics, English and Science along with a range of other subject based learning. In September 2015 we introduced a Preparing for Adulthood curriculum into Key Stage 3 which develops skills, knowledge and understanding within Employment, Community, Independence and Health.

Their curriculum consists of core timetabled lessons in Mathematics, English and Science along with a range of other subject based learning. In September 2015 we introduced a Preparing for Adulthood curriculum into the 14-19 phase which develops skills, knowledge and understanding within Employment, Community, Independence and Health.

Our sixth 14-19 class, Project SEARCH, is based at The City Hospital and is entirely Employment focussed. Please refer to the link to find out more
