Group 3

Group 3 is one of the six KS4/KS5 classes and is part of the Semi-Formal pathway within the Academy. At present there are 10 students within the group; 6 male and 4 females who are aged between fourteen and eighteen.

The students in Group 3 are working within the following ranges:

English: Working at Entry Level 2

Maths: Entry Level 1 to Entry Level 3

Science: Entry Level 2 to Entry Level 3

The student profile in the group includes moderate learning difficulties and communication needs. There is a varied mix of characters, who all bring something interesting and unique to the group dynamic.

The students use the Academy facilities for their various subjects, e.g. science lab, workshop, food technology room, ICT suite. They also go out of the Academy on social mobility where they complete Titan Travel Training as well as visiting other colleges and attractions in Nottinghamshire. All the students follow accredited courses in English, Maths, Science and Information Technology and Art. Students also have the opportunity to sign up to music lessons, some of group 3 students are participating and thoroughly enjoy this experience. Some of our students go to clubs after school these include Dance and Girls football and IT.

This is the second year of the Preparing for Adulthood curriculum which develops skills, knowledge and understanding within Employment, Community, Independence and Health. These skills are a mix of task specific life skills and academic skills within real life contexts so students can practise English and Maths in meaningful contexts.

As a group the students move around the Academy with their Teaching Assistant (TA) going to their various lessons. All students attend assembly which is on Friday morning, sometimes the groups devise their own assemblies and sometimes it is led by a teacher. Up to two students will represent the group in Outspoken (student voice) and will attend weekly meetings listening to the group's opinions and taking them back to the meeting and take responsibility for the schools paper recycling.

We consult with a range of professionals including Occupational Therapists (OT) for pupils with exercise plans and help with specialist equipment, Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT) and the school nurse for general health and guidance. Group 3's TA have worked alongside the OT and SaLT team and acquired the skills to complete physiotherapy exercises and Speech and Language programmes.

Communication between home and the Academy is especially important. Students' planners are checked each morning and a note written from the Academy most days or whenever necessary. Contact is sometimes by Email or phone to and from parents.

When our pupils leave Foxwood they may choose to move on to a local college or to complete an internship through Project SEARCH.

Group 3 are a happy, settled group and respond well to learning. A friendly group of students who are able to work together and promote a happy environment.
