Outspoken

Outspoken is the voted title given to our school council. The group was formed to enable students and staff to discuss important issues affecting the Academy. The group meet each Tuesday lunchtime for 30 minutes. Every alternate Tuesday, the group do the recycling for each classroom, including the office and staff room.

The group is made up of representatives from all 14-19 classes, and some pupils from KS3. At the start of each year, each class votes for their representative and members can change termly or stay the full year.

We are involved in fundraising, special interest days, and help out in assemblies. We sometimes work with charities from outside school. Members provide a voice for their classes

Staff members are Janet Smith and Karen Hicklin.

Student members:

Emily, Joseph, Liam, Elliot, Tyler, Chloe, Nathan, Jasmin

Coree asked Helen about a special lunch for the day and she said she would like some ideas:

‘Ham’lette, Caesar Salad Steak ‘as you like it’ Midsummer Nights Fruit

Hubble, bubble, toil and squeak

What it means to be at Foxwood Academy

We would like to celebrate what it is to be at Foxwood and encourage students to think about this. We would like to be able to give parents/visitors a vision of the atmosphere at Foxwood. The work we do is to use on the Academy website and in the Presentation Evening.

We could maybe divide the words from the wall (see below) into 10 big themes then Declan with the help of Andy/Paul will take photographs, film clips etc to capture these images and create a bank of information to use.

Classes can book Declan to film.

Ideas – each student to design a brick for a wall. Inside each brick should be a word or two which describe what it means to be at Foxwood, how do they feel, what do they like doing e.g. Happy, learning, fun, friends etc. We are concentrating on words more than pictures.

We are trying to get a vision of what it is like to be at Foxwood.

The new website is to be finished just before Easter so we need to start the first week back. Tony will introduce it in the first Handprint on 24th Feb. we will give out ‘bricks’ during that week to all classes in the academy. Andy/Paul will have the classes out one at a time to construct the wall. The Foundation Stone will be laid on the 16th March in the Hall. Coree is to make the Foundation stone – an A3 page depicting what it means to be at Foxwood.

Next meeting – Thursday 25th February

How did Handprint go? Getting bricks ready to give out to classes. Email staff.
