Outspoken

Outspoken is the voted title given to our school council. The group was formed to enable students and staff to discuss important issues affecting the Academy. The group meet each Tuesday lunchtime for 30 minutes. Every alternate Tuesday, the group do the recycling for each classroom, including the office and staff room.

The group is made up of representatives from all 14-19 classes, and some pupils from KS3. At the start of each year, each class votes for their representative and members can change termly or stay the full year.

We are involved in fundraising, special interest days, and help out in assemblies. We sometimes work with charities from outside school. Members provide a voice for their classes

We looked at the Governors statements for the Vision Statement which we adapted to become more student friendly and less repetitious.

The headings being:

Care   Educate   Independence   Celebrate

Declan in the role of Multimedia Technician has made a good start on the photographs for the presentation evening and is hoping to soon start on the filming.

Kieran is continuing to work on the opening ceremony for Sports Week.

Val to accompany Adam down to the Bramcote college next Wednesday morning to take photos and look at the venue and amenities ready for Presentation Evening.

Presentation Evening
Declan asked about the presentation evening format. How Outspoken would like it to run and what they would like to be involved in.
It was thought to have Adam and the air cadets opening the evening.
Live entertainment from the cheerleaders before the numeracy award.
A film of experiences and learning between Science and Sport.
After the performing Arts a live drama performance
After the preparing for adulthood section have a live entertainment from Nikki and her Music
After the learners of the year, finish with a film on fun and friendships.
Outspoken would like to help with giving out the awards

- Coree – Art award
- Thomas- Numeracy 1,2,3
- Emily – Community award
- Joseph –Healthy student award
- Leah – performing arts
- Shaun – Science 1,2,3
Declan would be helping with the showing of the films and Kieran has offered to pick him up and take him to the evening.
It was thought by the group that it would be good to have a display board in the hall to show who Outspoken were (photos) and what they have done this year.
Kieran has started a powerpoint for the opening ceremony of Sports week.
Val to put staff/student words from the wall on the outspoken noticeboard.

Thursday 24th March 2016 Meeting

Shakespeare Colouring Competition
The group decided that Megan Martin in 3O had won the competition. Tony will give out the prize in primary assembly on Tuesday.

Presentation Evening
Andy brought a list about the awards at presentation evening and explained about the new awards as some have changed due to our new pathways.
The evening will be about 2 hours long and include the giving out of ROA’s and trophies. Live entertainment from Adam and his Air Cadets, The Cheerleaders, Nikki and 3X doing music, Martine and 3O doing Drama of about 5 minutes each.
The 4 titles will now become 2 and be approx. 6 minute photo and film slots: 
 - Fun and Friendships

 - Experiences and Learning. 

It was hoped members of Outspoken could introduce the entertainment sections.

Chris enjoyed coming to our meeting last week and was impressed by what we do but would like the chairperson to be a student. Kieran has taken on the role.

Outspoken to look at the different trophies given out at the Presentation evening and discuss what needs to be adapted or changed.
Tony to take Handprint on Wednesday to get ideas from students for play purchases.

Shakespeare Week

This went well. Declan took lots of photos around school. Colouring competition entrants coming in, they will be judged in next week’s meeting.

Karen asked if Outspoken could judge her Group 2 Shakespeare competition. We had 2 prizes.

Play Equipment

Matt asked Outspoken if they could find out from their classes and pupils at dinner and play times what play equipment, games or toys they would like to be purchased. Tony to take Handprint on the last Wednesday of term to get ideas from students for play purchases.

What it means to be at Foxwood

Mr. Humphreys asked Outspoken about the ‘Wall’ as he would like to use the concept of it with the governors to find out what the values of Foxwood are. He is to show the ‘wall’ to them at tonight’s meeting and come back to Outspoken with his findings.

Val will print off more bricks so the staff can do the exercise in our Inset Day tomorrow.

Andy showed us what the new Foxwood website would look like and explained how the Outspoken would look. The minutes would be updated weekly with room for comments. ‘What it means to be at Foxwood’ would be divided into 4 titles with lots of appropriate photos, comments, etc behind.

Shakespeare Week

Colouring competition and schedule of events been given to all classes. Flyers put up around school.

What it means to be at Foxwood Academy

Andy made a cardboard wall on which we placed our bricks during Handprint and during the day.

Coree and Thomas laid the foundation stone. It looks amazing.

During the meeting we went into the Hall and tried to divide the words into different area.

Experiences

Residentials, sport, swimming, school trips, trampolining, Sweet Treats, playing chess, Travel Training, disco.

Fun

Happy, amazing, cool, talent, soft play, playing outside, breaks, playground equipment.

Learning and lessons

Hard work, helping, like, nice lessons, lovely TA’s, good staff, working on the IPad,

really nice, entertaining, encouraging, accepting, respectfulness.

A really safe place.

Friendships

Friends, making friends, teamwork, friendly school.

Presentation Evening

Live performances -Nikki has asked if 3X can do some music, Martine is 3O can do some Drama, cheerleaders club and marching air cadets.

All Outspoken members to ask their forms what they would like to see or do at Presentation Evening, Val sent out an email to all staff.
